I'm sitting here thinking that I really should have blogged before now, but loss of internet connection at home over the week has made it difficult. Be forewarned: this will be a random entry...my spaghetti-on-a-plate offering. A situation that may simply be worsened by the fact that I am simultaneously killing brain cells with a much-needed and no-less-anticipated Mountain Dew.
By far the biggest piece of news is that there is one more child in this world that I will have to spoil with my amazing and unparalleled Aunt-ly abilities. My sister and brother-in-law had their first baby and my second niece a week ago last Wednesday. She is lovely.
A lesser, but still very exciting piece of news is that 1 tow, 5 days and $766 later, I have my Jeep back. Unfortunately, on my way to Bible study yesterday the "Check Engine" light came on again. This morning, after an early trip to the repair shop, the mechanic informed me that he thinks it may still be sensing some of the traces of the fuel that dumped into the system when the original problem occurred. He cleared the code and sent me on my way. So far, so good. (knock on wood)
I also did something last week that I have NEVER done and that I suspect no one in my realm of influence can lay claim to either. I went to Sonic for lunch. Well, okay, that's not the impressive part. The unusual part is that I spent $28.00 for a #7 lunch at Sonic. Actually, the charge from Sonic was around $7.00, but the charge for overdrawing my checking account was $21.00. Gourmet popcorn chicken, anyone? (In my defense, I will say that I have NEVER overdrawn my account before and my bank kindly reversed the charge when they looked at my financial history over the last 10 years with them. Now, if I could just get Kohl's to be as kind in extending a little credit I could save more with their store discounts for charge customers. But, alas, I seem unable to qualify. I can't imagine why...)
Also, it was my birthday on May 26th. Traditionally, my family celebrates birthdays with a special dinner in honor of the poor, aging soul. My selection for the menu was about as random as this posting...enchiladas to be followed up with coconut creme pie for dessert. A somewhat time-consuming and demanding dinner to make but my sweet sister, Faith, was up for the challenge. A chef is always their own worst critic and this is not only true for Faith, but it is also multiplied by the passion that she invests in all she does. There is really no middle ground in Faith's world; something is either great or it is absolutely, inarguably horrible. I passed through the kitchen upon arriving home where she was finishing up the last of the enchiladas and I commented that it smelled delicious. Her defiant reply was, "Well, good! But I'm never making these again!" Actually, the enchiladas and the pie were fabulous. And since I'm the birthday girl, what I say goes.
My two darling nieces helped me celebrate my birthday, but I was unable to hold newborn Emma because I started getting a scratchy throat just before she arrived. (Happy birthday to me.) So, I remained "hands-off", watching sadly as the rest of the family members took their turns.
That about brings you up to date. I hope you enjoyed the spaghetti. ;)
